Time Sheet Comments Field Size & Display

  • Under Consideration
For firms that use Replicon to capture your team’s billable hours, the daily comments functionality in NA5 is limiting. Most clients require each consultant to provide bulleted notes on tasks performed each day.

While comments can be entered for each day, there are two issues:
1) Comments are limited to ~244 characters which can limit your team when they are looking to justify activities. Even doubling this to 488 characters, that would be an immense help;
2) The person entering time can’t review the comments or determine if they are sufficient unless they click on the + sign. In previous versions of Replicon, the comments would display at all times allowing you could scan to see if your daily justifications were adequate.

For those that consult or are required to communicate with their approvers and clients on work performed, allowing sufficient comment space and easy review will further enhance the tool.

Hi George,

May we confirm if you are using a user defined field for adding comments?

Thanks

We do the same thing. I really need a memo field at a minimum and a date stamped memo field at best. I think the optimal approach would be to have a memo field for entry and another memo field that was not editable that collected the date stamped entries once entered, kind of like a logging field.

Hi Evans,

Thank you for using Replicon Community!

Do you need this field on the timesheet? Have you tried the Audit Trail report? This report gives you the action taken on the timesheet with the date and time.

Thanks,
Aashnee

We ask our consultants to provide a short project status update. Today, we have only the custom text field to use. It's too short and does not allow us to carry any kind of history. Our PMs have to copy the comments into a spreadsheet and keep up with them elsewhere. Would be nice if we could keep it all in one place. The Audit Trail report would not work for this.

Hi Evan,

Instead of using Custom Fields for comments, have you tried using the actual comments field available on the timesheets? You can add large data here and these can be seen at the bottom under comments/approver details section. These can also be tracked in any timesheet reports so there is always a track of historical data.

I apologize if my understanding is completely different from what you have tried explaining here.

Thanks,
Aashnee

These are task based fields, not project based fields. i need a summary at the project level, not the task level.

Hi Evans,

Can we have a quick call to understand this further? I do have your contact details. All I need is a convenient time to reach you.

Thanks,
Aashnee

Any news on increasing the size of the time entry comments field so that more characters can be entered? Also, it would be nice if it had a real-time display of the number of characters remaining, as comments are being typed.

Hi Tony,

It looks like we have several people looking for more room in comments and custom fields. I'll put this up as a candidate during our Q3 planning to see if we can get this addressed.

Thanks,
Charlene

I would also like to put my company in as requesting additional room in the comments field or at least give a countdown on how many characters are left.

The space shown for the timesheet comment is way too small. For the timesheet level comment, should display the full width of the screen, rather than only displaying a few words.

I second this. I have folks at my company who would really appreciate being able to see the entire comment box when they are entering their comments.
I really hope this is being seriously considered.
