Split expenses across multiple projects

Hi there,

Many thanks for your work on making projects split properly across clients. We have a similar problem with, i.e. suggestion for expense items. It would be fantastic if the expenses could be split across several projects in a similar fashion.

To give you an example of a real-life case which we experience on an almost-daily basis: our staff travels a lot, but often visits multiple projects per trip. Currently, there is no possibility to split the travel expenses across the projects concerned, which may result in misallocation.

It would be great if you could help us fix this, please.

Many thanks and kind regards,
Philip

Hi Philip,

Please excuse if I have misunderstood your issue, however, splitting the expense by project is currently possible. While you are creating an expense you can click on add project, to add multiple projects and split the expense across them all.

Please do let me know if my understanding differs your issue and I can call you to discuss the same further.

Thanks,
Aashnee

Hi Aashnee,

Indeed, you can add multiple projects on the same expense sheet with each project having its own expense items in a separate block of expense sheet lines.

However, I have not yet found a feature in the system which would allow splitting an individual expense item or line across multiple projects. Apologies if I have I missed this.

To expand on the previous real-life use case: an airfare expense, where the flight served to visit two projects. Currently, we would be forced to allocate the expense line for the airfare to one or the other project, but couldn't charge pro-rata to both. What we suggest is to have a similar feature as for splitting projects across clients, i.e. allowing expense lines to be split with a user-defined ratio, say, 60% to Project A and 40% to Project B for instance.

Happy to take this conversation offline if you'd like me to illustrate this with further examples in our instance. I believe that you should have my contact details.

Kind regards,
Philip

PS, could you please change this back from a question to a suggestion, as I had initially classified it? Cheers!
