Roll up on task level

We are using Tasks and Sub-Tasks to structure projects. We are only allowing entering time on the lowest task level. Therefore we need numbers to roll up every single task stage, but we cannot create any report which does exactly this (not even by using task hierarchy in the report). There is only a sum on project level, which is not enough. How do we solve the issue and receive a project/task report with subtotals on every stage?

Similar problem is the Task Tab within Project Management. The actual values displayed against the task do not include the actuals from the sub task. These should be rounded up from the lower level.

There is the visual problem in that the task displayed ZERO actual hours when the sub-tasks are hidden. This is obviously a bug!  This has been reported to Replicon and recognised as a bug but I can't find an entry for it in the community forums.

Hi Olaf,

Thank you for posting your suggestion.
The product doesn't currently support a full-fledged roll up mechanism, but that is something that we are looking to address in due course.

A basic form of roll up is available in reports using the Task Name Hierarchy field. Project level roll up is available in Project based reports when grouped by Project Name. However, this is a user-selectable roll up function that is done in the Report UI, so it is not available when the report is exported to PDF/Excel. We understand the constraint and will consider enhancing these in future releases.

In the meanwhile, if you have specific issues with the Task Name Hierarchy field, we would like to know more about them so we could look at fixing those in the immediate term if possible. Support can reach out to you to gather more information.

Best regards,
Naveen

This is also an issue for our company. I have forwarded our report request to support and want to emphasize the importance of this on the task tab view for quick visibility.

This is also an issue for our company and have set up projects and tasks and reports in a compromised way to get around it. The main project screen estimates is also incorrect and shows doubled up hours if you have estimated hours on the project level as well as the task level. .... Hours all get added up together instead of rolled up to summary/upper levels.... All the same problem.

Yes, we have it's same problem about doubled up numbers on the project screen. It is related to the roll up not working. Repilcon just keeps adding up the figures where you have entered estimated time instead of doing rollup from the bottom level to obtain the total amount. So, if you added estimated time on the project level then you enter estimate time on the task level it adds all of these together so you end up with a doubled up figure. So, yes Repilcon is broken in this area and needs to support rollup as it is a fundamental. You can forget about importing Microsoft project as none of the rollup works. You should see the Repilcion reports we created just to work out proposed versus actual on project and task levels. It will be an issue if this gets fixed up as we will need to re do all of our reports.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Allocated hours tracking at the top task level taking all hours from sub tasks.

When we have multiple users on a project. We give them a 'Named' Task and create a group of sub-tasks (creating a drop down). Example attached of our set-up.

When they have their own bucket of allocated hours to spread over all sub-tasks. We need to be able to put this at their Main Task level, so all hours put to the sub-tasks 'burn' at the hierarchical task level. This needs to be what's visible as the % used in their time-sheets.

Is there any way to make this happen?

When is "in due course"?

Seems like its a feature that should have been implemented as part of the design and its a flaw in the current version that it has not been implemented.

There is a strong demand for the project -> Task -> Sub-task estimates, actuals, and progress round up to be addressed.

When will the engineering team look at this feature?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Hierarchies in Replicon.

I find the limited support Replicon provides for hierarchical entities a particular point of frustration with this product.

Essentially, while it is possible to make departments and project tasks hierarchical, there is very limited capability around the actual hierarchy.

There are a number of things that I think should take into account the hierarchy, but I will start with the most glaring problem: reports.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to get reports to sum up the various hierarchy levels.  I can add Task Name (Full Path), and the report correctly puts in all the hierarchy levels (and orders them right).  But if you are grouping by Task Name (Full Path), it only shows the hours (for example) summed up against the tasks that actually had hours.

I mean if the task is this, with the corresponding hours entered:

Task A (4 hrs)

Task A / SubTask 1 (7 hrs)

Task A / SubTask 3 (13 hrs)

Then that is exactly what gets shown on the report.

However, I think most people would expect the time report to be actuall shown as this (with the subtask hours summed up for the next higher level task):

Task A (24 hrs) -- 24 = the 4 at this level plus the 7 and 13 at the lower level)

Task A / SubTask 1 (7 hrs)

Task A / SubTask 3 (13 hrs)

I always have to report this way, and the only way to do it is post-process in excel manually, which generally takes an hour for a decent sized project.

The same thing goes when reporting departments.

Hi Ken,

I have merged your query with this topic as this feature request has already been raised.

The PM team will post an update on your idea shortly.

In theory, Like MS PRoject the upper tacks should only contain rolled up figures. I guess this is a design descsion. It could do both. Also, why can't tasks with zero amount of time entered against them be included in the reports.

Is there any progress on this as its been open for some time now and there is obvious interest in having the issue working as per the responses above

I was going to post a similar question. Is there a status on Replicon? I feel the roll-up of hours of sub-tasks to tasks should be a no brainer!

I am also deeply interested in this ability. The lack of the ability to run a report that aggregates all sub-tasks to the top level task in a project is a real problem.

A bit disappointed that this issue has a NOT PLANNED status.

Will the dev team re-look at this decision as there seems to be a demand for it.

Hi Lingaraj, Just want to check in on this thread and see if any progress has been made with fixing this broken functionality.  This is a major constraint point for us with using Replicon as a project management tool.

Any progress on this? I feel like it makes such simple sense that if you have sub-tasks, your task should roll up the hours from subtasks

I am quite surprised this hasn't been implemented yet.  This thread looks to be several years old already and there is a high demand for it.  An update on the progress of this would be appreciated.

I have informed Replicon about this bug a months ago, without receiving any action plan. When looking on this communication tool, I see that the bug has already been reported 3 years ago !

I have recently asked for an update to the support team, and got a very disappointing answer :

"I checked with our Product Management team and unfortunately this feature will not be available in the near future as it is not in our Roadmap. Please follow the link provided by my rep to get an update when this feature will be available."

It seems this company is not really interested in the issues of its customers....

If somebody knows software that can offer similar functionalities with good customer support, I am interested to learn about this.

Come on Replicon - surely there is enough customer requests/bug raising on this issue that it should now be resolved.

Hi Derek, Thanks for showing some kind of response to this ongoing limitation.  I would like to ask; 1) How long is that "back log list"; and 2) When should we expect to see some kind of outcome?

Not to my knowledge.  We are looking at some alternatives which includes PM, Accounting and time and record keeping at this point but haven't found the perfect match.
