Actual vs Estimated Hours - not appearing or incorrect - 2 questions

The Project summary in our case often does not always display the estimated hours in the chart on the summary page - what would be the reason for this?

In some cases it does but is incorrect, based either on the total hours and dates of the project or the sum of the hours for each task and the task dates. In these cases, what causes this?

Hi Peter,

Thank you for using the Replicon Community!

In replicon there exists two kinds of Estimation Mode for a Project - Resource Based and Task Based. The projects with the Estimation Mode as Task Based will display the Estimated Hours. Following are the steps how you can find the estimation mode of your project:

1. Login to Replicon as an Administrator
2. Copy your URL till your company name
3. Append the copied URL with - "/Services/help/all" and paste in a new tab
4. Click on "ProjectService1"
5. Then choose "GetProjectDetails"
6. Under the Project URI start typing your project name and then choose from the drop down that shows up
7. Click on Submit
8. Click on the JSON tab
9. Search for the Estimation Mode and you will be able to confirm if your project is task based or resource based.

However, this estimation mode is configurable. Following are the steps to change the estimation mode from Resource Based to Task Based:

1. Login to Replicon as an Administrator
2. Copy your URL till your company name
3. Append the copied URL with - "/Services/help/all" and paste in a new tab
4. Click on "ProjectService1"
5. Choose "UpdateEstimationMode"
6. Under the Project URI start typing your project name and then choose from the drop down that shows up
7. Click the icon against "estimationModeUri" and select "TaskBased" from the drop-down menu.
8. Click Submit

This will change the estimation mode and will help you see the Estimated hours.

Here is how the Estimated hours are configured and calculated in the system:

You can assign hours and cost estimates to each project you manage. You can compare these values to the actual hours and costs for projects in reports. If you use Replicon for resourcing, you can also track actuals against allocated hours estimates. You can also view graphs of actual hours and costs versus estimates in the Project Management section of Replicon. These estimates are based on allocated project hours. Also to add you can defines estimates for the task. These can be compared to actuals in Replicon reports. However, if allocations have been set up for a project, estimates are based on allocated hours, not the estimates you enter here.

Moreover, to add here in Replicon, tasks and projects can be reported on independently; task-level values are not summed to arrive at project level amounts. However, you can set task-level summable values (such as estimates and actuals) to sum in reports, if you want to see whole-project values using task-level data. You’ll probably want to choose to make estimates either at the project level or for individual tasks, not both. You can also prevent users from entering hours and expenses at the project-level, so that all amounts can be tracked for tasks only.

Hope this clarifies the doubt here. However, for further details we may want to look through your system and configuration and if possible please let us know if we can have a support representative reach out to you for the same

Thanks,
Aashnee

Changing the way estimates are calculated is unnecessarily complex in my view - we have over 100 projects in our active list. Is there a plan to include this in the system settings in the future?

Thanks
