A matter of import

One of the prime reasons customers use our import functionality is to bulk add users when setting up Replicon.

Using imports has a few advantages: Inputting data in a spreadsheet is much faster than adding it in the web interface, especially if users are assigned many of the same settings. Plus, customers may already have data saved in spreadsheets.

But, adding users is far from the only scenario where imports come in useful.

Did you know you can also edit and delete data using imports?

You could, for example, change project settings for hundreds of projects all at once, or update all resource assignments for a project in one step.

So, if you need to make bulk changes, check out our import features – we have two of them:

  • One is our shiny new in-app import. It can be used to add or modify users, holidays, activities, groups, projects, tasks, clients, and project and task assignments. Its advantage is that it's available right there on the Administration page in Replicon, so you can import data quickly and easily.

  • The other tool is our old standby RIA, the Replicon Import Add-in for Excel. It's a great tool, but has a couple of limitations that drove us to develop the in-app feature (it requires a bit more setup, some companies don't allow add-ins, and it can't be used with Macs).

But, we're still supporting RIA since it allows you to import some types of data that the in-app feature can’t – namely time, time off, expenses, and certain system-level settings.

Because they use spreadsheets, imports require a bit of prep. But, they can save you a ton of time and can actually be a pleasure to use. So why not try them out?

For more information on using the in-app import, see Mass adding, updating, and deleting data using data import.
