Time Tracking Reporting

I originally asked this as a question, but was asked by a Replicon rep to make this a suggestion.

We work on hundreds of projects everyday, and knowing when projects are busy is key to how we schedule.

Currently, in order to understand when our projects are busy, we have our employees track against "Tasks" that are titled as times. So for example, if I am checking Project A between 8am and 12pm, I have a special task titled "Project A 8a12p"

This is not ideal, it means each project has at least 6 different trackers just to divide the day. What would be best is if each project only had 1 tracker for our employees to worry about and we could still report on when that tracking occurred.

I understand we can run a report that shows each individual time punch, but ideally, I'd like a report that could show me how much time my team collectively spent on a project at different times of the day. Like, if I wanted to see how much time was collectively spent on a project between any two times.

All the data appears to be available, but there is just now way to actually run a report with that information.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Time Tracking entry times.

I am curious if there is a way to report on the times time was entered?

For example, if I have a project that shows 20hrs were tracked during the day, and I wanted to see how much of that time was tracked between 8am & 4pm, is there a way dig into the data that way?

If I understand things correctly, what you are looking for is coverage data or coverage charts.  I have seen these applied in more time & attendance situations, but not to projects before.  Here is an example of a coverage chart showing the number of employees working at a given time.

The report you are asking for sounds quite similar, but with the amount of time worked broken into segments instead of the employee count.

Unfortunately this has not been asked for much before, so I do not have a good case to implement it yet.  But I will have to keep this in mind to see if I can get more people interested in it.

Not quite, we only use the segments because there is no better solution at the moment.

The way our shift are structured is that during these shifts dozens of projects get worked on. Our users track the time they spend on each project.

Naturally, we can run reports that show how much time tracked against a project in total during the day. But we were hoping we could break that down into how much time was tracked per hour. This would help us understand better when each project is busy and would help us schedule more accordingly to our client's needs.
