Scheduled report in PDF

We have a customized report and it is scheduled to be emailed on a weekly basis in PDF format.   However, the report has been broken into 2 pages in PDF because the left and right margins are too wide.  If we can have the ability to change the PDF layout settings (e.g. reduce the margins from 2cm (default) to 1cm) and still be able to have it emailed out automatically, it will be a great help.  Or, on the other hand, improve the converted report in Excel.  Right now, if you choose a report in Excel format,  you need to do a lot work to make it a nicer look including re-formatting columns and rows, re-enterring formulas, adding report names and headlines, etc.  I hate to say this but it is true - We had chosen PDF when we scheduled the report simply because the Excel look of it is too shabby.

I agree. Neither report is very useful. We never use the PDF because of the weird formatting. Reporting should be one of the strongest functions in a project management application. Maybe it is time to take a deeper look at it.

Thanks Evans.  I really think Replicon should take it seriously and improve the reporting function.  We were planning to let Replicon send this report to a customer automatically but now disappointedly found neither format is going to be useful...

Same here. We want to do so much more with the reporting but the way the data is segmented, it's almost impossible to get useful reports. We even went so far as to try to pull the data with web services but even at the web service level it is segmented. It would take a major project to reassemble the data and setup the relationships that would make it useful and actionable. Overall, we are pretty disappointed in the reporting capabilities and have to do a ton of spreadsheet massaging to get useful data.

Hi Joy,

Thank you for using Replicon community,

Replicon allows you to change the margins in most of its reports. The report schedule will then pick these settings next time its generating the PDF.

Hope that helps.

Lingaraj

We have tried doing this earlier with a tech support over the phone.  It didn't work.  But I'll try again.

Hi Lingaraj, it worked this time.  Thank you.  Now is it possible to choose not showing all this info. on the top of the report?

Hi Joy,

Report header can't be disabled completely for now, but you can place it on a separate page.

Lingaraj,  is it possible to adjust the width of the columns to get rid of the blank area on the right side of the paper?

Unfortunately, no. This will need to be done via an external PDF editing tool.

Another workaround (when you don't have to automatically schedule the report) is to use the printer button and print to pdf. It sometimes looks a little nicer than the regular pdf.

Thanks Jeanne. I've done that too.  But one of the biggest selling points of Replicon to us was the automatic reporting capability.  We did expect to see something better...
