This week, we added new timesheet and time off validation rules, made an improvement, and fixed a few issues.

New timesheet validation rule: Average Hours in Rolling Period

This new timesheet validation rule can help you identify whether a user is working more than an expected number of hours, based on a rolling average. It will show an error or warning on timesheets if the average number of hours a user works in a rolling period you define exceeds an amount you specify.

For example, imagine you set the rolling period to 17 weeks, and the maximum average for weekly hours worked to 48 hours. If a worker averaged 48 hours for 16 weeks (some weeks working more than 48, and some weeks less), but then in the 17th week they worked 50 hours, this validation rule would be triggered, since the average over 17 weeks would exceed 48 hours.

You can choose whether particular types of time off, or hours worked against selected activities, are included or excluded from the average hours calculation.

New time off validation rules: Restrict booking duration, in calendar days or in leave year

We’ve added two new time off validation rules, similar to our existing Restrict Booking Duration rule, that allow customers to specify the maximum, minimum, or exact duration of a booking.

In one rule, you can specify a duration in calendar days, versus the existing rule that uses hours. In the Restrict booking duration in leave year rule, bookings that fall within a year that begins on a date you specify are validated for duration. With this rule, you can choose to validate:

  • Every Booking - bookings that don't meet the duration requirement can't be submitted, or
  • Once per Leave Year - a booking that meets the requirements must be submitted before any other bookings that don't meet the requirement can be made.

For example, you could use the 'leave year' rule to require users to book a vacation of at least 2 weeks duration each year, before they can book off any other time.

This rule allow companies in Switzerland, Hungary, and Romania to enforce minimum consecutive time off requirements.


  • We’ve updated all drop-down fields in configurable timesheets – excluding the project/task selector, which expands to show all text – to wrap longer text

Fixed issues

  • If a parent task is disabled, their child tasks may still be available for time entry
  • Total contract value displays on the Project list page and in reports for users who don’t have permission to view project estimates
  • When creating an invoice for a client who is associated with many projects (in the range of 1000 or more), if you create and edit a new ad hoc line item, the Project filter won’t display all projects
