Hierarchy for Activities

I would like to request a Hierarchy for Activities... it would be great if I could for example have Architectural Services as the Activity and then Schematic Design, Design Development,  and Construction Documents as Sub-Activities of Architectural Services.

Hi Nicole,

Thank you for posting your idea on the community,

Currently, you can easily set up a project for this purpose. Could you provide us your business requirement and if the projects feature is not meeting your requirements?

Regards,
Lingaraj

Thanks Lingaraj for your response.  Yes I currently use the hierarchy of  Client, Project, Task, Sub-Task.  What I would like to then be able to do is when our employees are filling out time sheets to have a hierarchy of activities.  I think this will make choosing the activity significantly easier for the end user as the Sub-Activities would be Categorized by Activity.

I agree that hierarchies are a great tool for organizing information.  We have heard a bunch of feedback about providing a way to have simple hierarchical data which can be used to categorize time, without all the extra functionality and complexity which comes with clients/projects/tasks.  We are evaluating ideas for doing this, and how it would fit into our products.

As a side question: are you using clients/projects/tasks and activities at the same time?  A short summary of how you are using clients/projects/tasks and activities would be great to know to help us improve our product in the future.

Yes, we are currently using clients/projects/tasks and activities... in our business a project is a contract, our contracts have 4-10 tasks depending on the scope of the work and they can be fixed fee or hourly.  Each task then is made up of multiple sub-tasks.  These subtasks can be completed by a designer that can do multiple different types of activities... in my request I gave Architectural Services, but a designer could also be doing Interior Design, Graphic Design which have sub activities related to them. The activity types are very important in our hourly billing as the type of work a designer is doing determines the rate we would charge the customer.

Also, if the activities could be linked to the user profile to allow for multiple billing rates that would be another great step.  I believe as of right now each user has a default billing rate in their profile. Would it be possible to allow for multiple billing rates in the user profile that can be set and linked to different activities?!

Love the idea of a hierarchy in the activities. We are using the activities field for Locations, and our locations have 3 levels -- Region, District and School. I would be great if I could go in to a user and select a Region, and have the system automatically give the employee all the districts and schools in that region.

Hi Jodi,

Would you like to look through our feature called "groups". This helps you put through locations in a hierarchy

Thanks,
Aashnee
