Define Project Template for new project creation

I would appreciate if there is a possibility to define project templates as an admin that can then be selected when creating a new project. The template should include billing options, billing rates, tasks, team, task assignments, etc.

Unfortunately copying existing template projects is not an option for us as we create new projects over the webservices.

Hi Philipp,

Thank you for putting forward the idea. We are however, a little confused about the workflow you follow while creating the project. We would like to understand where you would like this template to be available? If it is within the project management section, why is it that you are not able to base the new project on the existing one?

Hi Aashnee
Sorry for the late reply!
We create new projects over the webservice (PutProject). So this means that a project template needs to be available there. Or maybe there is a way over webservices to copy a template project (with CreateEditDraft ?) and overwrite the field values?

Hi Phillip,

This is possible through a copy project service that is available on Replicon,

In-order to use the service you would require a project which is going to be used as template to create new projects.

Please go through the instructions mentioned below to access the service.
  • Login to Replicon as an Administrator and click 'Administration',
  • You will be directed to the web-services home page,
  • Locate 'ProjectService1' on the web-service home page and click on it,
  • Locate 'CreateProjectCopyBatch2' on the 'ProjectService1' page and click on it,
  • You will need to provide the URI of the project which is going to be used as a template to create new projects in the URI field under 'SourceProject',
  • You will then need to choose a name of the new project that you are looking to create in the 'Name' field under 'DestinationProjectInfo',
  • You will need to choose the end dates for the project under 'daterange' section,
  • You will need to choose a status for the project under 'statusLabel',
  • You will need to select the copy options under 'taskCopyOptionUri' which allows you to copy or not copy the tasks,
  • You will need to select the copy options under 'teamCopyOptionUri' which allows you to copy or not copy the project team,
  • You will need to select the copy options under 'billingRateCopyOptionUri' which allows you to copy the billing rates from the client or project,
  • You will need to select the copy options under 'expenseCodeCopyOptionUri' which allows you to copy the expense codes from the client or project,
  • You will need to select the copy options under 'taskDateCopyOptionUri' which allows you to copy the the task start and end dates.
  • You will need to click submit after populating the information mentioned above,
  • You will be provided with a URI if the process of copying the project is successful,
  • Please copy the URI and go back into the web services homepage,
  • Locate the service by name 'BatchManagementService1' under the web services homepage and click on it,
  • Locate 'ExecuteInBackground' under 'BatchManagementService1' and click on it,
  • Enter the URI that was saved from 'CreateProjectCopyBatch2' service and click submit,
  • The project will be created on Replicon after you have clicked submit.

Do let us know if you have any issues with copying a project using web service so that we can have our support team can reach out you and assist you with the same.
